I don’t know how it all began exactly; what was that first cause in wanting to get a Nes? I do remember being in Turkey, staying at an American family’s home, playing Duck Hunt and getting beaten up by a toddler (literally) – unsure if that was before we had our own or if that was the reason why we wanted to get one.
We ended up getting one nevertheless, it must have been 1990 or something, I wish I could remember exactly when.
My mum, me brother and I taking the bus to Lewisham shopping centre, Argos specifically to get it. For some reason, I specifically remember it costing £107 – it must have been more, it must have been £170, but I vividly remember it being embarrassingly expensive. That’s the first vivid memory of that day.
The second was returning on the bus; it was pouring with rain and we sought shelter, waiting for it to pass. The bus had been on diversion so ended up in the hallway of a small block of flats that was close to home (but not quite close enough). Filled with excitement, wishing the rain would go away.

Since then, a lifetime of obsession.
